In the original TMNT comics by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Splinter found a book on Renaissance artists that he uses to name the Turtles; in the film, he finds a book on martial arts that inspires him to school the Turtles in martial arts. The book has Eastman and Laird's names on that, homaging their role as creators of the Turtles.
