Sulakshana Pandit was keen to play the role of Rajendra Kumar's wife. After 1980 offers had dwindled and she was open to making a transition into supporting roles. However Rajendra Kumar cast Vidya Sinha in that role. Sulakshana's sister Vijeta was the heroine of the movie and he did not want to get entangled with any dependencies.
