An obvious attempt to replicate the enormous success of Peyton Place, which had also starred Lana Turner and was also based on a soapy, best-selling novel. But while Peyton Place was the second biggest box office hit of 1957 (with $25 million in ticket sales) was nominated for nine Academy Awards and was later adapted into a hit TV series, this film was nowhere near as popular or memorable.
