While past incarnations of Kong are hardly dumb, this version has shown intelligence closer to a human level. He is able to make makeshift weapons, knows when certain individual humans aren't being a threat or trying to be one, and as revealed in Godzilla vs. Kong, can use Human Sign Language. The last one is very important as it's revealed that he learned it from observing Jia and Ilene communicating each other this way when the latter was trying to find a way to communicate with him, but deliberately kept it to himself.
