The decision was made early on in the design process that in every disguise, Dana Carvey had to show through. Since this is a family movie, they wanted youngsters to know instantly that it's actually Dana inside of those costumes and makeups. So in each disguise, they always tried to keep at least one element -whether the nose, eyes or mouth -recognizable at all times.
