Geoffrey Owens was often mistaken for Philip Michael Thomas. Owens auditioned for the role of Tubbs, but was turned down because he was considered too young to be a veteran street wise cop. A year later Owens landed the role of Elvin Thibadoux on I Robinson (1984).
