This is the second time that Star Trek and Star Wars have released movies in the same year, alongside the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). The first time this happened was in 2002, with the releases of Star Trek - La nemesi (2002) and Star Wars: Episodio II - L'attacco dei cloni (2002). Star Trek: Beyond (2016) and Star Wars - Il risveglio della Forza (2015) feature Greg Grunberg as a cast member. The force awakens was also directed by JJ Abrams, who directed the first 2 films in the Kelvin trilogy and produced this film.
