Natasha Henstridge was considered for the role of Jill Valentine in early drafts of this film as well as in the sequel. Japanese supplemental material for Biohazard 2 (1998) credit Henstridge's film debut Specie mortale (1995) as a source of inspiration for the video game franchise, making specific mention to her portrayal of the alien hybrid Sil.
