The Godzilla suit used in this film, the "Daisenso-Goji," was first used in the previous film in the Godzilla series, L'invasione degli astromostri (1965). During filming, the head of the suit had to be detached from that suit and attached to the body of the "Mosu-Goji" Godzilla suit (from Watang! Nel favoloso impero dei mostri (1964)) to create the frilled dinosaur Jirass from Episode #10 ("The Mysterious Dinosaur Base") of Urutoraman: Kûsô tokusatsu shirîzu (1966). A new head had to be made for the now-headless Daisenso-Goji suit in short order, which had a creepy bug-eyed look and strangely elevated eyebrows. The revised suit's first appearance in the film was at the beginning of Godzilla's attack of the Red Bamboo's base. Japanese Godzilla fans have named this revised suit the "Nankai-Goji."
