The continuity of the Fast & Furious film series is not in the order in which they were released. In 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Brian (Paul Walker) is still wanted by the police for his trespasses in Fast and Furious (2001), but he clears his record at the end, and is an FBI agent in Fast & Furious (2009). This movie is a direct sequel to 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), and is chronologically followed by the 5th (Fast & Furious 5 (2011)), 6th (Fast & Furious 6 (2013)) and the 3rd installment (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)). The 7th (Fast & Furious 7 (2015)) runs concurrently with the 3rd, and is followed by the 8th (Fast & Furious 8 (2017)) and 9th (Fast & Furious 9 - The Fast Saga (2021)).
