Tom describes Sonic's habit of moonlighting as a vigilante as "pretending to be Batman." A promotional tweet for the film took the reference further by paraphrasing the Riddler in Batman Forever (1995), which doubles both as an Actor Allusion for Jim Carrey (who played Riddler in that film) and a nod to The Batman (2022), which began preview screenings the day the tweet was posted and also features the Riddler. A second tweet featured another Forever quote and a poster parodying the final shot of Batman (1989).
