One of the last Muppets projects Steve Whitmire worked on before being fired by Disney in October 2016. Ironically, the role of Kermit was then given to Matt Vogel, who played Kermit's impostor Constantine in this movie. Disney and the Hensons were said to be surprised at the overwhelming amount of public backlash against Kermit's recasting and Steve's unfair dismissal.
