Support for this theory became stronger when word got out of a scene cut from the final movie, in which it was explicitly stated that Davy Jones's curse was prolonged indefinitely because Calypso did not greet him after his first 10 years. However, this suggestion wasn't followed, because Pirati dei Caraibi - La vendetta di Salazar (2017) shows Will still bound to the Dutchman 12 years after he became its captain, and follows the exploits of his son Henry trying to lift the curse.
