In the novel, there was a character named Kay who is a novelist and women's lib activist. She is a friend of Beverly's and had helped her escape her abusive husband. Kay made careful travel arrangements for Bev in order for her escape and journey back to Derry to go smoothly. In the It (1990) miniseries and this film, the character is left out. This is due to Beverly being rewritten as a stronger character who is extremely brave to leave her horrible marriage on her own in both adaptations.
