The venom from the basilisk destroys Tom Riddle's diary. It is later revealed that basilisk venom is one of the few things that can destroy a horcrux. Harry's body is revealed to be a Horcrux. At the very least the bite he received should have destroyed the horcrux he carries, if not also Harry himself.
