At the end of the movie they show aerial views of the destroyed cities of Sydney, Paris, Mexico City, and Chicago. And you see identifiable structures as well as buildings still somewhat standing, like the Eiffel Tower or the sign outside Wrigley Field in Chicago. Yet in the movie the radio announcer said that there would be 900°F winds moving at the speed of sound after the meteor hit. The high winds would not only not leave anything at all standing and wipe everything clean off the map, but the 900°F would turn everything into ashes
