During one of Jay's attempts to keep the giant Edgar-bug from leaving, the bug simply wipes him aside. Director Barry Sonnenfeld said that this was one of the hardest artistic decisions to get past the studio executives; they wanted the bug to land a brutal punch, while Sonnenfeld thought that a big insect making a 'girly slap' would be much funnier. Sonnenfeld stuck to his guns until the studio finally relented.
