In the film, Bruce Wayne (Batman) stares at a Rorschach inkblot and thinks that he sees the drawing of a bat. Chase Meridian figures that he may have a fixation on bats. The inkblot is a real-life psychological test, which aims to detect underlying thought disorders. Patients may perceive meaningful images in the inkblot, supposedly offering insight into their motivations and response tendencies. The test is named after its creator, the Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach (1884 - 1922).
