Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Enterprises filed suit in June 2005, before Zoom had entered production, against Sony and Revolution Studios that claimed a draft of this film was confusingly similar to X-Men (2000) and that the pic was purposely scheduled to open two weeks before X-Men: Conflitto finale (2006) in order to build on the parallels. Revolution had shifted the release date of Zoom from May 13, 2006 to early August 2006. The move was prompted by Warner Bros.' Poseidon (2006), whose release date was moved from May 5, 2006 to the original Zoom date of May 13, 2006. Sony and Revolution did make some minor changes to the script in direct response to the suit. For example, a character's name was changed and the location of the film's research lab was shifted. In their lawsuit, Fox and Marvel sought monetary damages, but they apparently withdrew the filing two months later without demanding recompense.
