The bank robberies the Gang conducted took deposits mostly of the local citizens and not from businesses or corporations, like the fictional-Rock Northern Railroad. These robberies were also carried out before deposit insurance, like FDIC, were in place. Meaning; deposits stolen from the vault wouldn't be replaced. Thereby leaving the average citizen, the ones the Gang claimed to be helping, penniless because the Gang didn't share their spoils with anyone outside their gang.
