(at around 2h 10 mins) When Lovejoy tells Cal that an officer on the other side of the ship is letting men board the lifeboats, and to stick with Officer Murdoch because he "seems to be quite practical," he is factually and historically correct. When the ship started to sink, First Officer William Murdoch and Second Officer Charles Herbert Lightoller were each responsible for organizing the evacuations on the starboard and port sides respectively. Where they differed was their interpretation of the "women and children" rule. Lightoller strictly adhered to the rule, while Murdoch allowed men on his boats if there was room.
