Adam Wingard wanted James Rolfe to appear in the film as an extra, knowing that he is big fan of the Godzilla franchise. Wingard stated that he did not follow up on this possibility with Rolfe, as, due to the uncertainty of extras appearing in the final cut, he did not think it would be worth Rolfe's time. Rolfe himself has stated that the timing of the birth of his second daughter meant he could not have participated in filming.
