At the epilogue of the movie, the aging Bilbo is sitting down looking at the One Ring. When Gandalf knocks his door, he stands up to open it, keeping the ring inside the right pocket of his vest. This establishes a straight connection with the beginning of Il Signore degli Anelli - La compagnia dell'Anello (2001), when Bilbo, talking with Gandalf in the kitchen, introduces his hand in the same pocket, in order to touch the One Ring.
