At the beginning of the movie, Harry visits Lloyd whose been a patient at a mental institution for 20 years (It's assumed shortly after the original movie ended Lloyd had suffered a mental breakdown after learning Mary Swanson is married and is suffering from severe depression) which is later revealed to be a 20 year prank. The scene mocks Jim Carrey himself who fought depression.
