Cleopatra tries to convince a middle-aged Julius Caesar that he must embrace Alexander the Great's goals to conquer the world. She wants to unite the world under a single empire, and makes it clear that she wants Alexandria to be its capital. Caesar is unconvinced, stating that a single person's lifetime is not enough to achieve such a goal. In real life, Cleopatra managed to expand her kingdom to the Levant, annexing areas of Coele-Syria, the Nabataean Kingdom, Palestine, and Phoenicia. She also annexed Cyrene (in North Africa) and two cities in Crete. That was the extent of her conquests. The Roman Republic did not allow her to fully annex its vassal kingdoms in the Near East. Neither Egypt nor Rome was able to defeat the Parthian Empire (247 BC-AD 224) that stood as Rome's main rival in the Near East.
