At the end of the film, Parker narrates that what actually killed Elvis was his love for his fans. In the film as well as in real life, Parker could never fathom why Elvis valued his fans over what was expected from him by mainstream media and Parker himself. According to Joe Esposito, one of Elvis' closest friends, Elvis' fans were the second thing that he loved after his immediate family.
