Additional plot elements may be based on C.S. Lewis' Narnia stories. When Dorothy returns to Oz, she finds the once-bustling capital city in ruin, much as Lucy did in her second voyage to Narnia (Prince Caspian). She also finds a large number of people turned to stone, much like the White Witch's sculpture garden (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). She returns to Kansas seemingly the morning after she left, even though her Oz adventure probably took a week or so. Throughout the Narnia series, people from England would spend days or even years in Narnia, and return to England at the same moment they left.
