According to 2nd unit cameraman Jeff Blyth, a scene was filmed on the Pacific Coast Highway in which Dick Halloran is driving along and receives the telepathic distress call from Danny. Dick then loses control of the car and almost crashes into oncoming traffic. Blyth said it was a dangerous scene to shoot and was disappointed that Kubrick replaced it with the scene where Dick is simply laying in bed watching TV.
