Sandy's real life squirrel appearance came from an original idea for SpongeBob - Il film (2004) where SpongeBob and Patrick were to meet Sandy on the surface while she's being followed by a group of exterminators. But the scene was ultimately cut due to Nickelodeon rejecting Sandy being a wanted criminal on the surface and was also due to Patrick throwing up on camera.
