The show portrays Monique/Marie-Andrée Leclerc as someone helpless, and following Alain/Charles against her will, but in reality she was fiercely loyal to Charles, participating in several murders in multiple countries. She was imprisoned, as was Charles, in India, but was paroled and returned to Canada when she was diagnosed with cancer. Marie-Andrée still avowed her loyalty to Charles until she died at the age of 38, from ovarian cancer.
