The image of Vincent Van Gogh that appears on the TV-monitor immediately following the "You're fired!" video-phone call is a "parallel lives" reference to how Marty McFly --- like the famous painter --- habitually threw away his chances to have a better lifestyle, due to unwise choices of action during moments of trauma and/or peer-pressure.
