Although various Star Fleet captains are shown to be from other countries and planets, Captain Jean-Luc Picard is the only central character Captain in a Star Trek series who didn't originate from the United States, as he came from the town of La Barre, France. Captain James T. Kirk of Star Trek (1966) was from Riverside, Iowa; Captain Benjamin Sisko of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) was from New Orleans, Louisiana; Captain Kathryn Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager (1995) was from Bloomington, Indiana; and Captain Jonathan Archer of Enterprise (2001) was from upstate New York.
