While shooting a scene during Elvis' Vegas period, Austin Butler accidentally injured himself with a guitar. At one point, while he was singing, the guitar got caught on the cape of Butler's jumpsuit while he performed an energetic dance move when he brought it forward. When he threw the guitar back and tilted it, it ended up smashing the side of his face. Despite being dazed by the impact, he finished the performance. Director Baz Luhrmann then stopped filming and noted to Austin that he was bleeding. Austin had to get stitches on the side of his forehead. The injury left him with a partially noticeable scar.
