Daisy Ridley found out that she was cast in this film while visiting a theater with a friend. When she checked her phone, she noticed that J.J. Abrams send her an e-mail and a voice mail, asking if he could call her. Although the play she wanted to see was about to start, she decided to call Abrams back anyway. Even during the phone call, she still wasn't sure if she landed a part in the film. He then told her that she's going to be in Star Wars, which left her stunned. After the call, she went back to the theater where the play had already started. She had to sit through that lengthy play, during which she couldn't tell her friend what just happened.
