The look of the "red honeycomb zone" of the Unknown Regions was inspired by a homemade cloud tank photograph that included, among other things, pieces of grocery store-bought chicken suspended in a red-lit aquarium photographed by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) Art Director James Clyne.
