Chloé Zhao was reportedly the one to actually approach Marvel about directing the film, having been a fan of the MCU and wanting to add her own mark on the franchise. And having been a lifelong fan of Manga, she found the allure of Worldbuilding a sci-fi epic too irresistible to pass up.
