The movie is set in a new timeline, and is not a direct prequel to either the animated La carica dei 101 (1961) or the live-action La carica dei 101 - Questa volta la magia è vera (1996). In the 1996 film, Cruella's fashion empire is named "House of DeVil," which is not mentioned in the 1961 film. That said, the original 1961 film does mention that Anita Darling was an old school mate of Cruella's, while in the 1996 film, Anita is an employee of Cruella de Vil.
