About 1 hour, Bill (Tom Cruise) goes to rent a costume. This is supposed to be Greenwich Village in Manhattan, New York, NY. As many people are aware, this movie was actually filmed at a studio in Great Britain. However, director Stanley Kubrick was famously meticulous in his research for all parts all of his films. Of course, this includes the settings. From living in the area in New York for nearly 30 years, it is obvious the store Bill goes to rent his costume from is based on a real store named "Trash & Vaudeville" located on St. Marks Place in the East Village for many years. Although the store in the film has a different name (and is different), from the outside, it looks identical to this store.
