Lord Humungus, the main antagonist of Interceptor - Il guerriero della strada (1981) and Emperor Palpatine, antagonist of the Star Wars series, are considered strong influences behind Immortan Joe. Like Palpatine, Immortan Joe is a disfigured tyrant, and like Lord Humungus, Immortan Joe conceals his deformed face behind a mask.
