A fifth Batman movie entitled "Batman Triumphant" or "Batman Unchained" was announced and was in development. It would had gone back to dark Batman and more true to the comic books. The plot would had seen Batman, Robin and Batgirl go up against Scarecrow and Harley Quinn. Bruce Wayne has retired as Batman, but once again becomes the Caped Crusader. Batman goes up against Scarecrow, who has a personal vendetta against Bruce Wayne, and intends to have Batman locked up in Arkham Asylum by driving him insane with a fear toxin. Harley Quinn also seeks revenge against Batman when she discovers the Joker is her father. However, due to this films disappointing box office returns, the sequel was canceled, and Batman's big screen life was eventually rebooted as Batman Begins (2005).
