Jewel Kilcher was extremely reluctant to kiss Rob Lowe in any intimate scenes together. In the end, they ended up doing the scene, but the kiss was very awkward. Lowe told Ellen DeGeneres on her show that filming the series was a "paradise of indignities," but it was a real blow to his self-esteem when his costar didn't want to engage in mouth-to-mouth action for the TV drama. In an interview, Jewel jokingly passed the refusal off by saying that his mouth had been to the unknown and back.
