According to a statement by Ryan Coogler on the passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, Executive Producer Nate Moore stated that Chadwick (T'Challa/Black Panther) and John Kani (King T'Chaka) decided to talk to each other in Xhosa - Kani's native language - on set the same day of filming. Xhosa went on to be the official language of Wakanda in Black Panther (2018).
