Janet Montgomery was written out of most of the last several episodes of season 1 because of maternity leave - she became pregnant between the filming of the pilot and second episode. Once she started showing, classic filmmaking techniques to hide an actress's pregnancy went into effect - having her wear loose clothing, only using close-up or obstructed shots of her. When it came time for her to have her baby she temporarily left the show, and it was never obvious that she had been pregnant.
