When the movie first opened, a screening was attended by director John Landis. He became infamous in the 1980s for a helicopter accident on the set of Twlight Zone: The Movie (1983), which killed actor Vic Morrow and two child actors. (Morrow and one the child actors were decapitated by the helicopter blades, while the other child was crushed). During the Planet Terror (2007) segment, a scene came up where a chopper was tilted down then flown through a group of zombies to slice their heads off with the propeller blades. Suddenly everyone in the audience went deathly silent, as many began to quietly stare at the now uncomfortable Landis.
