French Stewart came up with the distinctive Harry squint, though somewhat accidentally. He went home from his first audition for the show and felt it went pretty well. He rewarded himself by smoking from his bong (French was a self-proclaimed pothead back then) and relaxing in the tub. His manager later calls him the same day and says that casting wants to see him again now. He tells his manager that he's pretty high and she buys him an hour to get his head right. He goes back and casting notices a difference in his performance this time, but they still liked it. The character of Harry ended up squinting for the entire run of the show because French Stewart was high at his callback.
