A great deal of advance publicity for the film featured the image of Rex Harrison riding on the back of a giraffe. At the first preview of the film, many members of the audience were baffled by the absence of anything involving this image - the scene in which this occurred had been cut. Studio chief Richard Zanuck finally figured a way in which a very brief shot of Harrison atop a giraffe could be inserted into a montage sequence; the shot, which is unexplained, is just a few seconds in length. The image was nonetheless used in all the film's major advertising.
