In the shot that introduces the character of Ralph Garcy (Barry Miller) to the audience for the very first time, he is whistling a nameless tune to himself off-camera before he walks into frame. That "nameless tune" was originally supposed to be the musically identifiable notes from the song "America" from "West Side Story" (Freddie Prinze had been in a production of "West Side Story" at the school) but MGM did not want to pay the extra cost for the rights to use the song notes, so it had to be changed to something unidentifiable.
