Various contemporary sources confirmed that principal photography began May 4, 1981 in Los Angeles, CA, but an article reported that Michael Winner filmed various shots on the streets of downtown Los Angeles prior to the official start date. The schedule to film the eighty-seven-page script was expected to last eight weeks, extending between the hours of midnight and 4:00 A.M. Bronson ignored the eight-hour day limitations in his contract, working ten to twelve hours "to help complete the movie on time." Winner exploded a Cadillac over the edge of a cliff in San Pedro, California, on the final day of filming.
