In the beginning of the movie Alma and Sofia Ellsworth arrive to Deadwood on a passenger train. However, Fremont, Elkhorn and the Missouri Valley Railroad (the first passenger train to arrive to Deadwood) didn't arrive until 1890. The movie is set in 1889.
