According to author Neal Gabler in the biography "Triumph of the American Imagination", Walt Disney saw this film and lamented, "That's the kind of film I wish I could make." At the time Disney was creatively stymied, producing broad family comedies such as Il cowboy con il velo da sposa (1961) and Un professore fra le nuvole (1961), but he would soon find a fulfilling project in Mary Poppins (1964).
